Weather

Marrakech in June is warm and sunny, with average daytime temperatures around 31°C (88°F) and cooler evenings at 16°C (61°F). Expect plenty of sunshine with minimal rainfall. Sunscreen, hats, and staying hydrated are essential.

Clothing

Light, breathable fabrics like linen and cotton are ideal for the warm weather. Modest attire is recommended in public areas to respect local customs. Comfortable footwear is a must for exploring the city’s cobbled streets and souks.

Airport Information

  • Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK):
    • Modern airport, 15 mins from city centre.
    • Facilities: duty-free shops, currency exchange, ATMs, free Wi-Fi.
    • Bring a hard copy boarding pass for departure—must be validated at check-in. Long queues are common; allow extra time.

Currency

The local currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). It is a closed currency, meaning you can only exchange money within Morocco. Exchange services are available at airports, banks, and hotels. Credit cards are widely accepted in larger establishments, but it’s advisable to carry cash for smaller vendors and markets.

Language

The official languages are Arabic and Berber, but French is widely spoken and understood, especially in Marrakech. In tourist areas and hotels, basic English is commonly spoken, so communication is generally straightforward. Learning a few French or Arabic phrases, such as “merci” (thank you) or “shukran” (thank you in Arabic), can be a nice gesture and appreciated by locals.
